Janie Tells It Like It Is!
It IS Your Fault.
This is the place with the first and last words on marketing stuff that really
makes sense. Honest talk about the business of being seen, remembered and
bought that does NOT blow smoke. Read this, talk to me and let’s work to move you and your creative business forward toward success.
The first thing that is required of every creative is to completely quit excuses, accept total responsibility and get moving to try something different to get more of what YOU want. There are a million really good reasons why you are where you are. Now make a plan to get out of there and into what you want.
You need money! Without it this business is next to impossible.
So go make it, borrow it, steal it or marry it. Stop crying because you didn’t
get the chance. Make the chance. And if you cannot, I am truly sorry.
You’re right, it’s not fair.
You need clients! OK, so does everyone. What can you do NOW
to get people – people who will become clients later – to see you now?
Then what do you have to do, to make them remember you? Then want you?
Then choose you? Getting clients is your forever work. It takes a plan.
Here are five, practically obvious, tips for making it happen:
1. Be a decent human being.
This means remembering manners and practicing gratitude. It includes
being outgoing and caring what happens to others. It shows in your work.
2. Do great work.
There is no way around this. You must put the time and energy into
producing creative. Without the passion and the product you should get a job.
3. Show your work.
Now we start to separate the doers from the dreamers. If no one “really”
sees your work you have no chance to be remembered or bought. Figure out
how you will do this. Then do it. Over and over and over….
4. Over deliver.
When you get someone’s attention, make sure you are worth their time.
Get your work together, get yourself together, get back to them in a “together”
way and get the chance to be together for work and life.
5. Follow up.
Be persistent. Be willing to keep after it, month after month and year after year. Share knowledge, be available and keep in touch.
Try this, give it one solid week of effort and watch the magic.
Then call me and we’ll make a Plan to keep it going.
